Emmanuel Macron

President of the Republic · 2017-présent · born on 21 December 1977

Inspector of finances and investment banker, Emmanuel Macron, economy minister under François Hollande, founded the En Marche! movement in 2016. He was elected president of the Republic in 2017, at 39, the youngest in the history of the Fifth Republic.

His first term was marked by reforms (labour code, pensions), the “yellow vests” crisis (2018-2019), then the Covid-19 pandemic (2020-2021) and the return of war in Europe with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Re-elected in 2022 against Marine Le Pen, he governs without an absolute majority.

Since 2017 he has embodied a centrist, pro-European political offering in a fragmented France. His action remains widely debated, but he has reshaped the French political landscape around his camp.
