Lothaire
King of West Francia · 954-986 · born in 941, died on 2 March 986
Son of Louis IV d’Outre-Mer and Gerberga, Lothair became king of West Francia in 954. He tried to reconquer Lorraine from the Ottonian empire.
In 978 he launched a surprise expedition on Aachen, triggering a counter-offensive by Emperor Otto II to the gates of Paris. He died in 986, perhaps poisoned, according to a now debated thesis.
