Marie-Louise d'Autriche
Queen · 1810-1814 · born on 12 December 1791, died on 17 December 1847
Daughter of Emperor Francis I of Austria, Marie-Louise married Napoleon I in 1810, under the Franco-Austrian alliance. A young empress of eighteen, she gave birth in 1811 to the King of Rome, the long-awaited heir of the Napoleonic dynasty.
She remained empress for only a short time: after the campaigns of 1812-1814, Napoleon abdicated in April 1814 and Marie-Louise took refuge with her son in Vienna, where she was treated as an Austrian princess.
She never joined Napoleon in his exile on Saint Helena and secretly remarried General Adam von Neipperg, with whom she had children. She died in Parma in 1847, after governing the duchy of Parma for more than thirty years.
