Carloman Ier
King of the Franks · 768-771 · born in 751, died on 8 December 771
Son of Pépin the Short and Bertrada, Carloman shared the kingdom with his brother Charlemagne at their father’s death (768). A pious king, he maintained good relations with the papacy.
He died in 771, leaving Charlemagne as sole king of the Franks: the reunification of the kingdom paved the way for the future Carolingian empire.
