Charibert Ier
King of the Franks · 561-567 · born in 520, died in 567
Son of Chlothar I, Charibert I ruled over Paris from 561. His repeated marriages and unions earned him the hostility of the Church, which excommunicated him.
He died in 567 with no surviving male heir: his kingdom was divided between his three brothers, Guntram, Sigebert and Chilperic. One of his daughters, Bertha, married the pagan king of Kent, Æthelberht, a marriage that indirectly helped bring Christianity to England.
