Clovis II

King of the Franks · 639-657 · born in 635, died in 657

Son of Dagobert I and Queen Nanthild, Clovis II became king of Neustria and Burgundy in 639, while his half-brother Sigebert III received Austrasia. He reigned under the tutelage of the mayors of the palace.

He married Bathilde, a young woman of Anglo-Saxon origin: sold into slavery and then servant of the mayor of the palace Erchinoald, she was later acquired by the king and venerated as a saint. Father of Chlothar III, Childeric II and Theuderic III, he died in 657.
