Louis X le Hutin

King of France · 1314-1316 · born on 4 October 1289, died on 5 June 1316

Son of Philip IV the Fair, Louis X the Quarrelsome became king in 1314. His short reign was marked by the feudal leagues, which he appeased with charters, and by the recall of the banished Jews, granted under financial conditions.

In the royal domain, he restored the possibility for serfs to buy back their freedom. He died in 1316, a few days after a game of tennis (according to tradition), leaving his wife Clementia of Hungary pregnant.
