Posthumous son of Louis X the Quarrelsome and Clementia of Hungary, John I was born on 14 or 15 November 1316. King of France from birth, he died five days later, on 19 November.
His premature death allowed his uncle Philip V the Tall to take the throne and raised the decisive question of the succession to the French throne.
