Chilpéric II
King of the Franks · 715-721 · born in 670, died on 13 February 721
Traditionally presented as the son of Childeric II, Chilperic II was first entrusted to a monastery under the name Daniel. In 715, urged on by the mayor of the palace Ragenfrid, he was drawn from his retreat by the great men of Neustria fighting Charles Martel to make him their king.
After several defeats (717-719), he finally recognised the pre-eminence of Charles Martel. He died in 721; tradition gives him as his son the future Childeric III, last Merovingian king.
