Son of Dagobert III, Theuderic IV was first placed in the monastery of Chelles before being called to the throne in 721 by Charles Martel, who held real power. A king without authority, he died in 737.
At his death, Charles Martel left the throne vacant, opening the interregnum that lasted until 743.
