Louis II le Bègue

King of West Francia · 877-879 · born on 1 November 846, died on 10 April 879

Son of Charles the Bald and Ermentrude, Louis II the Stammerer succeeded his father in 877. Crowned at Compiègne, he had to make endless concessions to appease the great men of the kingdom.

His very short reign was marked by tensions with the great men of the kingdom. He died in 879, leaving two sons from his first marriage, Louis III and Carloman II, and a son from his second wife, the future Charles III the Simple, born after his death.
