Raymond Poincaré
President of the Republic · 1913-1920 · born on 20 August 1860, died on 15 October 1934
A lawyer and statesman from Lorraine, Raymond Poincaré became President of the Republic in 1913. During the First World War he embodied national unity and France’s pledge.
After his presidency (1920), he returned to power as President of the Council (1922-1924, then 1926-1929) and ordered the occupation of the Ruhr. He died in 1934.
