Sadi Carnot

Son of the statesman Hippolyte Carnot, Sadi Carnot became President of the Republic in 1887, after Jules Grévy’s resignation.
He was assassinated in Lyon on 24 June 1894 by the Italian anarchist Sante Geronimo Caserio, a few months before the end of his term. His death caused immense emotion.
